Álvaro Palacios has spent his life involved in the family business Bodegas Palacios Remondo, based in Alfaro La Rioja, working in the winemaking and commercial field.
He studied oenology in Bordeaux and spent time working under Châteaux Pétrus winemaker Jean Pierre Moueix.
Returning to Spain in 1989 Alvaro was a pioneer in resuscitating the historic Priorat wine area, gaining international acclaim for his L’Ermita, Finca Dofí and Les Terrasses.
Since 1999 he has embarked on producing world-class wines from another neglected Spanish region – El Bierzo – together with his nephew Ricardo Perez, on their project Descendientes de J Palacios.
In 2000, Alvaro returned to take charge of the family La Rioja bodega, reducing production and raising quality, working to place his hallmark of harmony, intensity, subtle power and grace on the new Palacios Remondo wines.
He was crowned Decanter Man of the Year for 2015 and the recipient of the Institute of Masters of Wine/Drinks Business Winemakers’ Winemaker Award in 2016.
