Ca’ Marcanda is a renowned winery located in the Bolgheri region of Tuscany, Italy. It was founded by Angelo Gaja, a legendary figure in the Italian wine world, in 1996. This estate is part of the larger Gaja Winery, originally established in 1859 in Piedmont, where Gaja first gained fame as a producer of Barbaresco wines. With Ca’ Marcanda, Gaja expanded his winemaking expertise to Tuscany, especially to the Bolgheri area known for producing Bordeaux-style blends, also known as “Super Tuscans.”
Ca’ Marcanda’s vineyards are situated in Bolgheri, a region with mineral-rich, stony soils that are ideal for cultivating Bordeaux grape varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot. The estate’s notable wines include labels such as “Magari,” “Camarcanda,” and “Promis.” Each wine reflects the unique terroir of Bolgheri combined with Gaja’s refined winemaking approach, blending Italian character with Bordeaux elegance.
The winery is also famous for its strikingly modern, eco-friendly architecture designed to blend harmoniously with the surrounding landscape and minimize environmental impact.
