Idda is a collaborative winery founded by Angelo Gaja and the Graci family, located on the slopes of Mount Etna in Sicily. The name “Idda,” meaning “she” in Sicilian, is a tribute to the volcano itself, which locals personify with reverence due to its powerful presence and role in shaping the landscape.
The vineyards at Idda lie at high elevations, between 600 to 800 meters above sea level, where volcanic soil, rich in minerals, and the unique microclimate foster the growth of indigenous grape varieties like Nerello Mascalese and Carricante. These varieties produce wines with vibrant acidity, depth, and a distinct mineral character, capturing the essence of Mount Etna’s terroir.
Idda’s wines reflect a harmony between tradition and modern winemaking techniques, focusing on small-batch, high-quality wines that emphasize freshness, elegance, and authenticity. The winery produces both red and white wines that are celebrated for their aromatic complexity, delicate structure, and the unique volcanic minerality that makes them truly representative of Etna’s remarkable terroir.
